Domokon Experimental, the Cardboard SLR

Cardboard SLR

A while back I posted a note about a cardboard single lens reflex camera project and early this morning I received a note from the builder that there is a page set up for it now. The site has just about everything you could ask for, movies from YouTube of it in use, photos from Flicker the construction and also sample images. It’s quite an amazing little project. I love the softness that the magnifying glass lens gives the photos. Go have a look and try not to build one yourself. 🙂

Military BigDogs Go For Walkies

Big dog pack robots

The use of robotic legged hauling devices might make the life of the average member of the US military a little easier.

The Most Advanced Quadruped Robot on Earth BigDog robots trot around in the shadow of an MV-22 Osprey while given commands via remote control at Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., June 26, 2006. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is considering plans such as weaponizing the BigDog robots and using them to carry extra gear to free Marines of the burden of extra weight.

‘BigDog’ gets it’s power from a hydraulic system powered by a gasoline engine. It weighs in at 75Kg and is about the size of a small mule (1m x .7m) and can carry a 54 Kg. load.

Installing WordPress Locally Under Windows XP

Wordpress

Modifying a working blog is always a pain in the arse, one mistake to a style sheet and everything is screwed up. Plus figuring out themes and plug ins can be a royal mess. What you need is a staging area so you can test things out. I usually use my old Mac G3 running PHP and MySQL to see how things work. If you don’t have a second computer you can follow these instructions and go to town with the mods and never have to worry about screwing up the production site.
