  1. I picked up one of these at the Maker Fair and it is hella cool. I was with my girlfriend when I picked it up and you know how I roll, so I played it cool you know. But as soon as she left, I busted that thing out of the plastic and ratcheted it down and in just a couple of hours I had a working sterling engine put together and humming along. I waffled about the $100, but then I considered it as a personal education device, similar to buying a college textbook, and found it to be well worth the cost. Of course the whole manual is in Japanese, but there are very detailed pictures that you can use to assemble it just fine.

At the fair, they also had a 3 tube amp radio amplifier kit, and several other amazing projects that make ours (in the US) look like tinkertoys.

But a true geek will appreciate and love this kit. Beware it might make you want to build a much bigger version…

    peace out, passing drifter.
