Deck Keyboard

Deck

Holy crap! Man…. This is the coolest keyboard I have seen in years! each key has its own LED behind it (84 total), variable brightness (seven levels), USB interface (the plug even has an LED in it), and draws less than 250mA. They come in red, blue (I want!), and yellow. Even the bottom of it looks cool!
This is the perfect keyboard for running ICE on a hot data node down on the BAMA. I’ll take a blue one please.

  1. This keyboard however is NOT good for gaming. The Cherry keyswitches they chose are linear and require a pretty substantial amount of force to depress and worse, to keep depressed. This translates into gaming pain and annoyance.

Cherry makes soft-tactile and click-tactile mechanisms of the same key. http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/switches/key/mx.htm

If only they had chosen one of those instead. Hopefully they will offer these keyswitch mechanisms on a Deck in the future.

  2. Apparently they chose the linear travel switches for durability reasons. They’re still fairly noisy when comparing to my clackety Unicomp board, and I have to agree they require some force to depress in contrast to the cheap boards I’m supposed to use at work, BUT you don’t have to push the keys down completely to actuate them. I dunno, I bought a red one, I’m very happy with it so far.
