Quite the handy little tool if your needing little buttons for things.

What are the “80×15 brilliant buttons”?
The “80×15 brilliant buttons”, also known as “antipixel buttons” or “badges”, are the very popular buttons especially used by bloggers, take a look at the examples on the left…

…This is a web interface to create “80×15 brilliant buttons” using Bill Zeller’s php script.
In addition to the original script you can use two images (one on the left and the other on the right side) to decorate the button.
If you want to use a created button, please do not link directly the image, but save it and afterwards you can use it wherever you want!

OS X on x86

Apple

I’ve founds a bunch of links on how to install the Apple OS X opperating system on a regular PC from from the MAKE blog and from Hackaday. I’m sure there are others out there but if your wondering what all the ruckus is about you can all the details there. Pretty much with some files downloaded from the ‘Net you can cajole a PC into running the developer version of Apple’s OS. Sounds pretty cool to me, except that I don’t think I own any hardware that would run it. I have mostly older Intel chips and what I have that is newer are AMD. I’ll have to do some reading and see if any would have a chance. Not that I’ll act on it, I simply don’t have time these days. Still, it is a cool idea. I have an Apple logo on my laptop’s cover and it would be pretty nifty to have the OS on it too.

BRRRAAAAPPP!

BRRRRRRAAP!

I spotted this on Red Ferret and just had to share.

Enjoy the unique look and feel of the highly detailed Styer 606! Mini AEG’s are smaller replicas of the full-size automatic electric guns. They’re slightly larger than a pistol, with a lower rate of fire and muzzle velocity than their big counterparts, but don’t be fooled: these guns can hold up to 170 rounds of ammo, and they really pack a punch! Plus, they’re fully automatic – just hold down the trigger and watch those BB’s stream madly out, one after the other, in a straight, swift line – which usually means fun and entertainment, plain and simple, whether you’re doing some target practicing or having a rousing game with your friends.
Electric AirSoft guns use batteries as their power source, they’re usually fully automatic, and they shoot fast and hard. Their bodies are constructed of ABS plastic, with some internal metal parts to simulate the solid, comforting feel of steel. Make sure you don’t confuse these authentic, UHC-manufactured models with cheap lookalikes sold elsewhere! Here at HobbyTron.com we sell only the real deal, so that you’re always satisfied.

  • Length x Height: 289mm x 162mm
  • Weight: 406g
  • Caliber: 6mm BB (0.12g) Metallic/ABS/Paintball
  • Capacity: 170 BB’s
  • Propellant: RE-280 Motor, 4 AA batteries
  • Action: Fully automatic
  • Energy: 0.08 Joule (m/kg)
  • Velocity: 200 FPS (Feet Per Second)

Electric mayhem! 200 fps is pretty good, you don’t want to unload one of these babies in your house (in the neighbors place, thats different). Paint balls would be a lot of fun, take them camping and the person that gets shot the most has to clean the dishes.
Oh yeah, almost forgot. The best part is that they are only $20US.

A ‘Smart’ Bio-Nanotube

nanotube

Not on the market right now, but once they are treatments that use tools like this could be used to pinpoint toxic drugs directly into a tumor without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. I suppose that they could also be designed to stay closed until enough of a certain chemical is present in the blood stream or tissues. Think of how that could help an athlete – just as they are starting to cramp up after a very strenuous activity the nano tubes detect the fatigue poisons and open up releasing their payload of refreshing drugs.

The nanotubes are “smart” because they can open or close at the ends, depending on how the researchers manipulate the electric charge on the two components. So in principle, a nanotube could encapsulate a drug or a gene, and then open on command to deliver the cargo where it would have the best effect.

C64 Animation Gallery

Wheee!

Some are weird, some just don’t make much sense. All bring back fine memories. 🙂

The C64 Animation Gallery is a site that has gathered a lot of different animations from various Commodore 64 games, and also produced some of their own. They also have a section called ‘The C64 Animation Awards’ with prizes for Best Death, Best Dance and Best Explosion among others.
