Shuttle Debris Possibly Sighted

I don’t know what these might have been, could be ice, could be just tricks of light. I do know that one of the images I captured this morning of the main tank separation had a bright white piece of something zipping away from both the tank and the orbiter. You can see it in the photo that there is a tiny white speck above the tank strut on the right hand side of the image. (Click on the photo for a larger image) I doubt that it is anything to be worried about but the boys at NASA are going to conduct some imaging runs on the tiles in the next day or so

Video showed what appeared to be a large piece of debris flying off the external fuel tank two minutes into the flight. The object did not seem to hit the orbiter. Footage also showed what might have been at least two light-colored objects flying off Discovery as the shuttle cleared the launch pad.

Sasquatch Hair?

A laboratory will test hair samples that several residents of Teslin, Yukon, say were left when the large, but so-far mythological creature made a late-night run through their community in early July.

I like the ‘sort of a wildlife CSI’ remark down towards the end of the story. I’m quite sure that if the hair turns out to be from a dog or a bear the true believers will just say that there was a cover up, the samples were tainted or that there was a mix up in the lab.

Falcon Flight

Yep, the flying hamburger can actualy fly. Ok, to be honest it’s true that with enough thrust anything will fly – just look at a comercial airliner or the space shuttle.
It’s not just the Falcon that has been goven the gift of flight but X-Wings, TIE fighters, even the flying wing that Padme ran around in. The ships are constructed out of a material called ‘Bluecore’, it’s a 3/16 inch thick plastic foam that is supposed to be used as an exterior insulator on homes. It’s fantastic stuff, I have a few friends that build these cool looking R/C planes that weigh hardly anything and fly forever. You can read more about Bluecore here.
The power behind the Star Wars crafts are all these super high power brushless electric motors that have been a major advancement in the area of hobby flight.

Shuttle Launch A-OK

SST-114 Discovery

The space shuttle Discovery made a sucessful launch this morning at 10:39 EST. The rocket cam photos of the main tank seperation that was televised was simply impressive! Next stop, the International Space Station!
