Asterisk the Disaster Rescue Robot

Asterisk

The robot, called Asterisk, is 52 centimeters long and has six limbs with four junctures each. It carries a video camera and can be operated by remote control through video images it sends through wireless local area networks. The researchers hope to use the robot in situations such as searching for survivors in large-scale disasters and checking the ceilings of tunnels.

Scalextric Sport Digital Model Racing Set

slot fun

This just looks like too much damn fun! Six cars on the same track and you can retro fit the cars you currently have.

The Sport Digital set comes with a digital lap counter that can be programmed to run in 7 different race modes. One nice thing that Scalextric did was to ensure some backwards compatibility; most of the modern sets and cars can be retrofitted to become Sport Digital sets, complete with the ability to change lanes and run more than 2 cars on the same track.

Olympus Prototype HUD

HUD

A 3.8-inch translucent screen of the diagonal length of 10 cm seems to exist 50 cm ahead of the user. Personal impression when actually worn is that things can be seen through the display and it never hinders the sight, giving almost no annoyance.

Groovetube

Groovetube

Hey, I did kind of the same thing for a prop space ship motor i built for a TV show. In mine I used a Mac SE/30 to display B&W boxes behind a multi colored sheet of gels. To diffuse the colors even more I used a large Fesnel lens in front of it. Lookes pretty neat if I say so myself. I’ll have to post photos of it.

“The Groovetube is simply a translucent plastic box that suction cups to the screen of your television. It has a grid of dividers inside it that diffuse the colours from your T.V. producing an amazing colourful abstraction of anything you watch…
