RC TOYS VS. IEDs

RC Combat!

Outstanding! I hope the 27 and 49MHz frequencys used are good over there and won’t mess up any military equipment.

A young private [named “E.S.”] in that platoon has one of those radio-controlled toy cars. When they find unidentifiable debris in the road, E.S. sends out his little RC car and rams it. If it’s light enough to be moved or knocked over, it’s too light to be a bomb, so we can approach it and get rid of it. If it’s heavy, we call EOD [explosive ordnance disposal — the military’s bomb squad]. At night, they duct tape a flashlight to the car.

Instant-hot Latte

java good, hot jave even better

I saw this on gizmodo tonight. Make them available to a buck in vending machines and Puck will be king of America. Mark my words, there is nothing better than finding a vending machine that has a hot bevrage ( hot chocolate, coffee, saki ) on a cold wet winter night. I know this for a fact because I experienced it on many February evenings in Japan. The fact that these cans are self heating makes them all that much cooler.

The Night Stalker

Carl Kolchak

I don’t know where to start with this one, it’s just that big.
I remember staying up at night to watch this just so I’d be scared out of my mind.
Now I’m a bit worried about the “FBI’s no. 1 suspect” part of the write up. Sounds like ‘The Hulk’ mixed with ‘The Fugitive’. I like the fact that some ‘X-Files’ crew are going to be working on this project, I understand that that Carter guy was inspired by the Night Stalker series when he came up with the ‘X-Files’ series. It would be nice if he was working on ‘Stalker but I can’t have everything. Hopefully some of his influence will have rubbed off on them.
Kolchak is being played by Stuart Townsend (he was Dorian Gray in ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’) so it’s going to be a hard sell (to me anyway) to pass him off as a hard reporter from Chicago. Will be be working under an assumed accent? Don’t know.
Vincenzo, Kolchaks’ long suffering editor, is being played by Cotter Smith who was President McKenna in ‘X2’. I don’t know about him, I can’t say that I have seen him in anything else.
This could be a reason to watch an old fashioned terrestrial television network, I thin that Thursday at 9:00 pm is a good time for this show. As long as it isn’t up against anything to big it could be around for a while. I hope that the new series lives up to the original and makes us all fear the dark again…

“The Night Stalker” (one-hour drama, Thursday, 9:00 p.m., ET) — There are things in the dark, things adults deny but children are right to fear…
When a pregnant woman is snatched from her home, the shocked citizens of L.A. believe it’s an act of domestic violence. But crime reporter Carl Kolchak suspects that the truth is far more complicated. That’s because 18 months ago Kolchak’s wife was killed in a bizarre fashion and he has been the FBI’s no. 1 suspect ever since.
Kolchak’s determination to find the truth behind his wife’s mysterious murder has led him to investigate other crimes that seem to have some kind of supernatural component. But he’s trying to piece together a puzzle that keeps changing shape. Who or what is committing these crimes? How are they all related? And why do some victims end up with a strange red mark on their hands in the shape of a snake? With sidekick Perri Reed, a sexy if skeptical fellow reporter in tow, Kolchak will go to any lengths to answer these questions. But when he does discover the truth – will anyone believe him?
