WEB2DNA – Convert your website into DNA art

The DNA of TeamDroid

Quite cool.

The brightness of the lines is determined by the importance of the tags in terms of structure.
H1 is brighter than H2, which is brighter than H3.
TABLE is brighter than TR, which is brighter than TD tags.
Images and flash elements appear as 70% white.
New HTML tags like STRONG and EM is brighter than older ones like B and I
UL, OL and DL is brighter than their LI, DT, DD
DIV layout is brighter than table layout
Basically a semantically rich site will appear brighter than one with messy old-style code.

What a clever way to check a web page’s design structure out.

Pinhole Photos of Lightning

Lightning storm via pinholeA few nights ago a large thunderstorm rolled across the Phoenix area. my immediate thought was to grab my camera and take some pictures. Now I’ve done this before and I have never been all that lucky in getting a fantastic image in the 30 seconds I keep the shutter open. How the heck could I take a picture that had an exposure of minutes and not totally nuke the film? Humm… Well my pinhole cameras are pretty slow and the pinoramic is nice and wide. I decided to give it a try and this is what do you know, the strikes were bright enough to record on the film. Quite nicely I might add. The negs were pretty thin so this is the best I could do. I would have liked the background to be better exposed, or exposed at all for that matter. All in all its good for an exposure that was done without a lens. Its all cloudy right now so I’m going to prep the camera for another run tonight. I’m aiming for an hour exposure, that should cook the film quite nicely.

Tape – An Analogue Sound Installation

TAPE

Cool, I’ve been facinated by things like this for quite some time now.

An electro-kinetic sound installation, Tape uses simple analogue playback to allow users an arena in which to play with self-recorded sound and explore the effects of playback and sound synthesis. Housed in a transparent acrylic panel, Tape allows its user not only to view the oft-hidden components needed to record sound, but also to manipulate them as they see fit. Using Tape’s continuous tape loop and assemblage of appropriated and hand built electro-mechanical analogue parts, the user can not only record and play sounds, but physically slide, twist and move these components within the panel to explore their roles and uses.

Kids. With guns. They’re our future

One of my photos (and its one of my daughter too!) has been give the honor of being drawn by the great Searcher

I’m not sure what the statistic is, but I think when you let your small child man the gun on your attack helicopter. you’re never going to have pinpoint accuracy.

but there’s the father/daughter bonding.

Art Recipe – Women Kissing.. Boring!

Flickr photoset - Two Women Kissing
I was cruising through my contacts on Flickrone fine day and spotted this tutorial…

Then there was the woman, on the day of the Solstice Festival, in [arguably] the most open, bohemian neighborhood in Seattle, who became outraged at this drawing. Two women kissing. Minutes later, a full pint of Newcastle careened over across the entire moleskine sketchbook, completely drowning it. I didn’t see the woman do it, but what are the odds?
So I figured this would be a good Art Recipe, not only to show how to recover art from serious water (and hops) damage, but to revel in the simple beauty of two women kissing.

Not only is it good art (of women kissing) but you can see how it went from bar sketch to finished drawing.
