May Day Party of Years Past

May day 1999

A few years ago my friends and I decided to have a party to celebrate May Day, the holiday for the workers of the world. We figured we would spotlight the contrast between the US and the then biggest communist country we could come up with, namely the recently departed Soviet Union of Socialist Republics. Much fun was had by all that night.

Hey, if anyone is free on May 1st (it’s a Monday) Why don’t we all meet at a restaurant here in Phoenix. The email is on the side, and bring your favorite Communist rellic. (If you own a Mig to a T-60 tank, be prepared to offer rides for us all. 🙂 )

2006 Makefaire

MakeFaire 2006

The 2006 Makefaire is going on in San Francisco Ca this weekend. If your in the area or have enough cash burning a hole in your pocket to get a flight there you should go. Hobbyists, scientists, tinkers, gadget makers, Mythbusters, warrenty voiders, and a slug of other cool people are there discussing what they do and showing you how to do it. If your like me and are stuck at home, you can catch some video and see photos of it online.

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

Worldwide Pinhole photography Day

On the last Sunday in April (the 30th this year), finish that box of oatmeal that’s been laying around in your cupboard for years and build your self a pinhole camera ’cause its World Pinhole Photography Day! That’s right, it’s the time of year when all are encouraged to take a lens less photo and share it with the world. I love taking pinhole photos myself, in fact I’ve gotten quite good at not using glass in my photos. If your a bit stumped on how to go about making a camera the WPPD site has some resources for you. You can even use a pinhole in the body cap of a DSLR if you want. I hope to see your photos up there on the 30th.

Last years gallery is good if your looking for inspiration.

Apollo Lunar Module Paper Project

Paper LM

Every now and then a paper project catches my eye and I just know I have to share. This is one of them. Here is a 1/48th scale paper model of the Apollo lunar lander that will blow your mind. the detail is breath taking. He’s got more paper spaceships (or links to them) on his site as well. This is going to keep me busy for a while…

Laptop Stickers on Flickr

Stickered Laptop My Toshiba Beast

Over on Boing Boing I saw a group on Flicker I just had to join. It’s a group for people that like to put stickers on their laptops. Here I thought I was the only one that ever did that. Anyway, I joined up and posted two photos of my stickered laptops. I traded the Gateway away for an old Mac Powerbook that made it’s way to a happier home via Ebay years ago but the Toshiba I still use. It’s getting pretty old and tired these days, a 1.2 GHz Celeron just can’t cope with XP. I’m hoping to get rid of it soon so I’m not going to add any more stickers to it. Yeah, I value the stickers more than the laptop I guess. Anyway, go have a look at the Flickr group and see all the gummed goodness.
