I like a radio that you have to build parts just to get it to work. It makes the sounds sweeter when you know exactly how much work you put into it. I used to have a crystal radio that I listened to when I was working in my garage that I made from a paper towel tube. It was great! This kit isn’t a crystal radio but it does have a vacuum tube in it. Oh yeah, nothing says cool more than a glowing valve! This kit will make any home tinkerer happy, heck it will make tech bloggers happy too (hint hint, oh brother of mine!).

Seeing these works of art makes me want to pick up my razor knife and tube bender and have a go at making something like this. I used to make toy guns along time ago. They were never as sophisticated as these but they were fun to build.

I love this site, mostly because it give you ideas. Yeah, those can be dangerous can’t they? You just can’t let your toaster toast toast, it has to tell time, read the news for you and suggest what tie to wear to work. Ok, that’s a bit extreme but its not beyond what you can find on this information packed site
Ahh, now this is a neat project. For a hobby grade device I bet you can get quite a bit of work out of this. I’d worry that the CDs would distort and fail under the centrifugal load. Baring that, this looks like a great demonstrator for a Tesla turbine.
My friend Greg reminded me of this stuff. Pykrete is a mixture of ice and wood chips that is darn tough, won’t melt quickly, and can be formed using molds. Neat! Now I wish it was 100 degrees cooler out so I could make some of my own.
