Matchbox Pinhole Camera

Matchbox Pinhole Camera

This proves that you don’t need fancy equipment to build a camera. An empty roll of film, a matchbox, some electrical tape and a bit of foil is all you need to make this clever little gem. One of the coolest things is that because the format is 24mm x 24mm he gets 50 shots on a roll of 36. He also uses a plastic bit from a binder stuck through the sprocket holes to ‘click’ when the film is advanced. Every six clicks equals one frame. Perfect. I’m going to have to build one of these, maybe while I’m on my next trip.

Holga Digital

Digital Holga

This is a cool idea, but I don’t feel like dropping mega bucks on a digital film back right at this moment. I want to see what the images look like though.

The only DIGITAL HOLGA available in the WORLD! Skillfully modified to work with any Imacon Ixpress digital back, (not included) this Digital Holga sets a new standard of creative photography. Complete with Continuous Elastomer Retaining Devices (rubber bands) to hold your Holga securely in place, and a detailed Instruction Manual, the Digital Holga is ready to unleash your vision. A Hot-Shoe adapter and a Sub-Mini to PC cable is needed to make it all work. A "Holgaroid" Viewfinder is also a helpful accessory.

The TrekPod Hiking Staff

I’m going to have to get myself one of these. It’s a hiking staff that incorporates a collapsible tripod in it’s lower end. Provides useful support for you when your out walking and in a few seconds it turns into a light duty tripod for capturing the moment with your camera. You can get a variety of heads for it including a ball joint, standard screw mount and something that’s new to me, a magnet mount. I guess you screw a magnet into the tripod socket on your camera and just click into place.

Schlieren Shock Wave Photos

For years I have been fascinated by shock wave photos (Schlieren effect). This is an outstanding article on how new techniques are helping scientists understand the dynamics of everything from explosives to how materials are processed.

Korean Cardboard Pinhole Camera Action!

 Pinhole Art Combo

Ok, we have another DIY pinhole contender and this time it’s from Korea. All pre-cut cardboard construction with metal knobs and brass pinhole means it’s going to be easy to put together but watch out if your going to use it on the beach! The native format is 120 roll film but includes some cardboard spacers to hold a roll of 35mm film, so you can use it and get panoramic images and have them developed at your local Photo-Hut (just tell them not to cut the negatives!) For $20US if is a pretty good kit, the film combo ability is the big seller here.

Perfect Pinhole Camera System

Perfect Pinhole Camera

I wish I could find more information on this item. All I know is that it’s a pinhole camera system that includes variable focal lengths (wide, normal, telephoto) by using different length bodies, multiple slide in pinholes (0.2/0.25/0.3/0.35/0.4 mm) to give it different F stops, comes with different shutters (bulb and a timed one that looks like it’s a gravity shutter), and that it takes 120 film.
The site the mini review is on is kind of odd, it’s one of those little niche Japanese bars that has a certain twist on their business. Its called "Camera & Bar Antiquary". Cameras and booze, sounds like a cool place to hang out at. Good drink and walls of high quality photos. Stop by and have a drink and talk about your hobby with fellow patrons. I need to find one of those here.. or open my own. Hum…
