U.S. Army tests battlefield robot armed with pump action shotgun
I have seen enough robots do crazy stuff all by themselves to see that by giving them a shotgun your just on the fast track for a Purple Heart.
However, teleoperated gun platforms (UAV) have proven themselves in combat on more than one occasion. I can see how having a bunch of armed packbots zipping across the field of engagement to an unsuspecting enemy has a great sense of appeal. As cool as it is, I think that warfare should be a bloody deadly affair for both sides, without that we tend to forget the consequences of going to war and will make it a trivial thing. ‘Push a button, wipe out a city, hum, what’s for lunch?’

March of the Machine Monkeys

Rise of the cyber monkeys
I for one welcome our new cyber monkey overlords…
I think this is a fantastic step in the right directions. Once the hardware interfaces are human rated this could be the next big step in technology. Everything from the classic idea of a teleoperated space probe to prosthetics limbs could be realized with something like this.
