Today was the first photo outing of the four white walls photography group. We all met up in beautiful downtown Phoenix at 6:00 am today to go take photos of all the old buildings that won’t be around much longer. Turns out all the old warehouse and art gallery spaces down there will bring big bucks when sold to people that want to build parking lots, sports bars (that’s so 90’s) and Starbucks. Anyhow, here are my photos and here are the photos from the group. I’m looking forward to the next event, whatever that may be.

C M Automata
The husband and wife team of Peter Meder and Chris Chomick who these fanciful sculptures and automata are masters of their art. After starting out in the special effects business they found their calling as artists. These one of a kind creations use everything from common R/C servos to hand cranks to give life to their creations. This kind of work simply amazes me.
Abusing Amazon Images

3D Invader Piece Made of Rubiks Cubes
This is just a wacky item. As many people may know, scattered around the planet are tile mosaics depicting the aliens from the classic video game ‘Space Invaders‘. Well this is one made up of not the usual ceramic tiles but of Rublik cubes. Neat. I’m waiting for someone to build a massive sculpture out of Merlin games.

The Scream is Back
Two years after their theft from an Oslo museum, Edvard Munch’s famous paintings "The Scream" and "Madonna" have been recovered. The police aren’t saying how they got the paintings back but both are in pretty good shape. Good work!
New York Sky Cloud
Cool, I’ll be in New York when they start putting this up.
London-based sculptor Anish Kapoor, famous for Chicago’s 125-ton stainless steel "Cloud Gate" sculpture in Millenium Park (looks like a trippy mirrored jellybean), will install his 3-story tall "Cloud Mirror" in NYC from Sept. 19 to Oct. 27. To be situated at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the dish-like sculpture’s concave side will show an inverted reflection of the skyscraper.
