Shields to full power!
It works for the Earth, it should work for a spacecraft. I wonder how computers and other electronics will take being in a big magnetic bottle.

Did you know that with a little practice, you can perceive polarized light without any tools?

Build a Cyclotron at home, be the talk of the block!
I remember the plans for one in a Scientific American book but it was no where near 1-MeV!
I like the fact that the duo will be building a Farnsworth Fusor next, I expect that they will have some very positive results with it.

Good news for causality, bad news for sci fi fans!
PhysicsWeb – News – Good news for causality (November 2004)
“… plotted counts against the time-of-arrival of the photons (see figure). Using this graph, they calculated a mean group velocity that was 1.76 times the speed of light in vacuum. More importantly, they measured the signal velocity for the first time and showed that the increase in the group velocity does not increase the speed at which information travels.”
Sad news for sci-fi fans who might have misunderstood the implications of “faster than light” physics experiments.
