Historic Archives from Google Video

National Archives

Google video has joined with the National Archives and Records Administration to provide online access to old films about everything from the history of NASA to footage of World War II.

Students and researchers whether in San Francisco or Bangladesh can watch remarkable video such as World War II newsreels and the story of Apollo 11 – the historic first landing on the Moon. The pilot program undertaken by the National Archives and Google features 101 films from the audiovisual collections preserved at the Archives.

Ah, it looks like there is already a replacement in the works to fill the void left by Sony’s announcement to discontinue the robotic pet dog, Aibo. The new robot, produced by a Korean company Dasatech, will understand 100 spoken words like ‘sit’, and ‘wag your tail’. It won’t move as fast as the Aibo did but it will be quicker than the now discontinued i-Cybie

An Isometric New York by Eboy

eBoy

Nothing like a little isometric fun on a Saturday morning. Pixle artist Eboy has another masterpiece that you can oogle online or even buy if you want. I love these things, the level of detail is superb and you can look at it again and again and still find little hidden details that you missed the last time. Eboy even has a book of his work if you need something to sap your attention for extended periods of time. I can’t buy it or I’d end up going mad trying to make my own pixle art 24/7. If you want to try your hand at it you can start with this handy tutorial.

Komamura Horseman 3D Film Camera

New 3D Camera

Oh man, this is sweet! Twin 38mm f 2.8 lenses, shutter speeds from bulb, 8 seconds to 1/1000, rear curtain shutter flash sync, and 20 exposures on a roll of 36 are just a few very cool features of this camera. It even has an LCD on the back to give a read out on your settings. Oh yeah, it even spots full manual or AE shooting. And to top it all off you get a high quality stereo viewer included with your camera. With a price of $5000USD will keep this beauty out of the hands of all but the most dedicated stereo enthusiasts when it comes out later this year. I one day hope to see an affordable stereo camera with quality lenses on the market again, my 1953 Kodak stereo camera could do with an upgrade.

Titan Descent Data Movie

Titan Movie

This is like a performance art piece from space. The decent of the Huygens probe on to the surface of the moon Titan took almost four hours but this video compresses it into 5 minutes. The visuals give you information on what the cameras were seeing, how the parachute moved (handy for telling wind conditions), and what sensors were doing what.
