USB Carbonite Key

USB Han Solo

Perfect! Now this is worth getting, your very own Han Solo in Carbonite USB key. This is in addition to the C3PO, Darth Vader, and R2-D2 keys that IO Data came out with a few months ago. They also have a very attractive new Darth Vader inspired key that features the head of the Sith lord infront of some flames. I’d stick with the Han Solo key, it has a much higher geek factor to it.

I-O Data Device Ltd. adds “Darth Vader 2” of the new design and “Han Soroincarbonait” to USB flash memory “STAR WARS USB memory collection” that gives the design of science fiction film “STAR WARS”, and puts it on the market in the middle of August. The price is 5,355 yen. OS is Windows 2000/XP.

40 GB Pop-Tart Drive

popTartDrive01

[Originally uploaded by chadvavra.]
Very clever! No one would ever suspect that your Pop-tart case would hold 40 GB worth of data.
One of his comments says that “further work will include ‘status sprinkes’ illuminated by fiber optic.” Ok, I’d like to see that. Not that it would be weird already, but a blinking plastic Pop-tart plugged into your computer would be just about perfect. Nothing says king nerd like a blinking Pop-tart.

Cyber Coffee

Oh yeah, a self contained automated coffee mill/brewer! This should be standard issue for all dorms and labs.

Starbucks in your PC. René G. from Munich, Germany, is one of these individuals, a tinkerer and inventor to whom performance and visual style alone have long ago ceased to be sufficient. As a passionate coffee drinker, René G. set a difficult goal for himself, one that took him nearly 80 hours to achieve: through laborious and precise work, he was able to convert a coffee maker into a standard PC shell. A case of extreme modding, if you will. He invested over $3,000 into the components alone

Network Emoticons

Networked Emotions

Now, can someone make a button or light up belt buckle that does the same thing? It would be oh so handy when dealing with people that say “no, nothing is wrong” when it’s clear that something is.

This device allows somebody to remotely connect, and change the emoticons. It plugs into an ethernet connection at home, it can then be accessed from a remote computer (work, school, whatever) via a web browser. You log in, and can then change the emotion to let the person at home know how your day is going.

Flocking Bots

Flock

I love it. Off the shelf parts and clever software builds a swarm of flying robots.

For their proof of concept, the researchers are using lightweight $69 Proxflyer Bladerunner toy helicopters equipped with gumstix processors — tiny self-contained computers weighing 8 grams (0.28 ounces), but packing enough power to run the Linux 2.6 kernel and communicate over a built-in Bluetooth module.
The coaxial Bladerunner weighs only 50 grams (1.8 ounces) and is held aloft by two rotors, one atop the other, spinning in opposite directions to achieve a stable, insect-like flight. It’s sold as a remote-control toy, but after adding the gumstix and a downward-facing video camera, the Essex University researchers have already turned one of the choppers into what they describe as the world’s smallest flying web server.
