Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds Game

WoW

Back in 1998 Atari came out with a War of the Worlds game based on the brilliant Jeff Wayne’s musical play. I fondly remember that album, the mix of drama and rock still send shivers through me.

Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds is a real-time strategy game. There aren’t any set missions or a linear story-line, it’s all up to you. You must use your time wisely to build up your forces and production facilities within your sectors before the enemy can launch their attack. Research new technologies, construct new buildings, and build new military units to win the game and save your race. The fate of your species, whether Human or Martian, is on the line.

FirefoxfoxIE

FirefoxIE

This is… wrong? I don’t know, I’ll have to check this out. I hope someone didn’t write an extension that will auto install porn popups and tracking software just to make the experience all that more like the real IE.

For those who want to keep all of the convenience of the Internet Explorer browser plus gain all the security of the Firefox browser and more, there is an alternative.

TactaPad

Tactapad

I want one! This is just too neat! My friend George told me about this today, he edits gobs of video and I can see why he would want tone of these. If you could just pluck and plop video chunks around your screen with your fingers would be fantastic. Haptic control over your computer is going to take off one of these days, for somethings a mouse is just a pain in the arse. The easier it is to use your tools the better work you can do.
Too bad it’s not avaliable right now, but with some luck it will be soon.
Here is some press stuff from their page:

Interact with your computer in a direct and natural way. With the TactaPad you can reach into your computer and use both of your hands. Just like the real world.

See — The TactaPad’s camera continually captures an image of your hands. Your hands are translucently overlaid on your display as live video.
Touch — The TactaPad is touched directly with the hands. The surface can be touched in multiple places at the same time. A cursor appears on your display for every touch.
Feel — The surface moves vertically when pressed, providing dynamic force feedback. Each touch has a unique feel which corresponds to the object being touched.

Firefox Will Be There

Apple

Very cool, no matter what the platform Firefox will be there.

No-one quite knows what Apple’s move to Intel chips is going to bring. Is this the beginning of a bold new era for Macintosh? Can we expect to see weird hybrid Macs, capable of running Windows? Firefox fans needn’t worry though: apparently a working version of Firefox has already been ported over to the new OS, to my knowledge the first non-Apple app to do so. Apparently Apple helped out, as they wanted it for a tech demo. A sign of that Mozilla’s getting a bigger slice of Apple soon?
Again, who knows?
