Ultra-Rapid Charging Li-Ion Battery

Yow! A battery that will recharg to 80% in 60 seconds? Very cool.
My friend Greg mentioned a super capacitor that uses nanoparticles to pack in the joules. These rapid charge lithium ion batteries use the same idea. Look for them in 2006. I hope that they can up the discharge rate and get these in R/C planes.

Micro-VNC On A Phone

Cool, with this I could set my DRV up to record no matter where in the country (world?) I was. Will it ever come to America? I hope so.

Super Small Linux Computer!

German electronics company Kleinhenz is selling their new network-enabled Linux system that is about the size of a standard RJ-45 jack. These suckers are tiny! Hardly enough room to print the name and MAC address on it. It includes a built in Linux based OS, RJ-45 Ethernet jack, 8MB of Flash memory and the all important blinking LEDs! Also includes a serial port and a 55MHz cpu speed. Give it 3.3 volts and your off to the races. Linux system squishes into Ethernet connector (linux, micro, embedded, flash)

CONELRAD: All Things Atomic

CONELRAD

A few weeks ago I was trying to explain to my kids what it was like growing up with the idea that if the siren downtown went off it was either a sign that a tornado was coming or the Russian ICBMs were streaking over Canada inbound to the silos outside of Minot to the north. I was at the tail end of the whole cold war ‘nuclear death is just around the corner’ era, but it still made an impression on my childhood. They didn’t quite understand how that was different from the terrorist threats of today. Sometimes I almost wish that the biggest threat were the nukes, at least with those we knew who the bad guys were.
Anyway, this is cool site with loads of old cold war atomic bomb era info. There is a great review of the classic film “Duck and Cover“.
